Dates for 2026

Dates for 2026

In mid October we held our quarterly Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells DFC committee meeting where we discussed plans for the fund raising concert in April. We only have one more meeting before the concert so we needed to get it all set up. Please put the date in your shiny new 2026 diaries when you get them. Saturday April 25th in Tonbridge Parish Church.

Other plans for 2026 included Dementia Action Week in May when we will be hosting an information event along side the virtual dementia tour bus. Another date for those new diaries, Saturday May 23rd from 10am - 1pm

What's on in October?

Hello everyone,
During October I shall be distributing pantomime tickets for those who want them. They are for The EM Forster Theatre on December 13th at 11am. The production this year is Jack and the Beanstalk. If you would like a ticket please email me. Those living with dementia plus a carer only. If there are any left over I will include our fabulous volunteers.

September News

September News

Hello everyone,
By now the children will all be returning to school and we will  begin to think about Christmas. Having spent years helping to run a Sunday school, September was always the month when the Minister uttered those dreaded word, “what are we doing for church nativity?”
As our Tonbridge café doesn’t meet in December because the venue is unavailable, we have to do the Christmas ‘stuff’ in November, so I’m busy planning.

Once again, I have purchased pantomime tickets from our grant and have 25 available on a first come first served basis. Once all of our service users have got their tickets any remaining will be offered to our wonderful volunteers.
We have a TikTok sensation among our numbers! At the recent musical memories concert I made a short video clip of one of our lovely choir members singing a solo of Moon River. I posted it on TikTok the same evening and by next morning it had been viewed over 1000 times. Now it has reached over 7000  views. Wow! Who would have believed it? A more recent post from our Tonbridge cafe reached over 1000 views in less than 24 hours. You may wonder why I would use a social media platform like TikTok. The easy answer is that it is about raising awareness. TikTok is predominantly  used by young people (if you don't count Donald Trump) and many young people are affected by dementia when a grandparent or great grandparent receives a diagnosis. it can be incredibly alarming for a young person who has no knowledge of the condition, don't know how to act around a relative and may have concerns about visiting them. Sharing these little video clips lets them see that we can all have a good time even with that diagnosis and hopefully allow them to feel more comfortable around a relative living with dementia.

June Newsletter

June Newsletter

Hello everyone,
June was  a busy month with lots of activity. Our choir did us proud, performing at the Tonbridge Castle fete where they entertained the crowds with some wartime songs.
Our visit to Ightham Mote was a very enjoyable day and we will be going again, I just haven't fixed a date yet. Please let me know if you would like to go there for a visit. We were very well looked after by the National Trust volunteers who laid on a series of activities for us ending with tea and biscuits and a sing along.

We also had an afternoon of the river Medway on the Kingfisher Medway Trust boat.  It was a perfect afternoon, very hot but with a lovely cooling breeze from the water. The great crew took good care of us ensuring we were all safe and enjoying the trip. I will book that again for next year although even I can't book the good weather.
